Read the passage and answer the questions:

SAVE THE PLANET!

Have you ever thought of what you can do to help save the environment? Have you heard of recycling? Recycling is reusing things that you have already used or you don't need any more.

Scientists are worried about the future of our planet. They warn us against the risks we are taking by not looking after it. There are many problems we have to face. One very serious problem is that we are running out of natural resources such as wood, coal and oil. It takes millions of years to build up new resources and if we don’t look after what we have left, there may be nothing left for future generations of people. Water is another precious resource that many of us take for granted and waste. A little thing like turning off a tap while you are brushing your teeth can save hundreds of litres a year!

Another problem we have is how to get rid of the rubbish we produce. Most of the rubbish dumps we use now will be full by the year 2000. It is very difficult to find more space for our rubbish. People do not want to live near rubbish dumps. A lot of the rubbish that we throw away pollutes the ground and the water under the ground.

The best way to solve these problems is recycling. We can reuse many of the things we throw away now. For example, an empty cola bottle can be cut down and used to hold things like pens and pencils. A chocolate box can be used to hold computer diskettes. That old stained t-shirt can be cut up and used as a cleaning rag. Use your imagination and help to save the world!
